What about hotels and accommodations?
If you prefer to be close to amenities, like dining and shopping, the town of Jackson is the place to stay. Consider staying in one of several hotels where you can walk to the Town Square, shops, and restaurants. If you are looking for more of a resort feel then consider staying in Teton Village-( the Ski Resort- 12 miles from the town of Jackson across the valley). You’ll find larger hotels and lodges, as well as on-site activities for children like mountain biking, a ropes course, and hiking trails. While there is a public START bus service from Jackson to Teton Village for a few dollars a person, a rental car might make your stay in the “Village” more convenient depending on your activities and length of stay.
Do you provide airport pickup?
Buffalo Roam Tours does not provide airport service. However, many local hotels do have a free airport shuttle service or there are many taxi, Uber/Lyft and car rentals offerings. Airport is 12 miles from the town of Jackson.
What should I bring along on the Tour?
The most important item you can bring is a great sense of adventure! During our summer season, between June and August, we suggest a light jacket, sunglasses, camera, hat with good sun protection, comfortable walking shoes, any personal items, and either your park pass or money to purchase one. We have sunscreen and bug repellant available.
For the remainder of the year- Spring and Fall and during the winter, we recommend multiple layers of clothing, long underwear, wool type hats, gloves, comfortable footwear that you don’t mind getting snowy or muddy, sunglasses, camera, any personal items, and either your park pass or money to purchase one.

How much driving is there on a tour?
It depends on the tour. For example, the Yellowstone Day Tour takes about 11-12 hours, covering 260 miles round trip, while the Grand Teton Day Tour takes about 8 hours, covering about 110 miles round trip. The parks are massive and require quite of bit of driving to explore and get to where wildlife and historical sites are. Don’t fret, we spend as much time as possible out of the vehicle exploring!
How much time is spent outside of the vehicle?
We plan all of our tours around frequent stops for wildlife viewing, taking in stunning scenery, short naturalist walks, geothermal exploration, bathroom stops, and meals. Even on our Yellowstone Tours, where we are covering 260 miles, there are many planned stops and quite a bit of time outside of our vehicles. About half of your time on a tour will be outside unless it is a private hiking tour where some time accommodations are made.
How much walking or hiking should I expect?
Our tours are not physically demanding. While we focus on spending as much time outside as possible, watching wildlife, walking along the many Geo-Thermal boardwalks or reaching a waterfall overlook: activities are from just outside the vehicle or after a short naturalist walk. Our walks typically follow flat and easy terrain for less than half a mile at a time. Your guide will adjust the tour to meet your needs and abilities.
For Hiking Specific Yellowstone Tours – expect 1- 6 miles per hike, with 1-3 hikes per tour. Expect some uneven and possibly wet trails. Moderately strenuous at an elevation of 7,500 to 9,500 ft. Trail conditions, weather, route closures and guest physical abilities will be taken into consideration when choosing hikes. The goal is a safe enjoyable outdoor experience away from most front country crowds while in the natural beauty of our national parks. All park rules and regulation will be followed while on tours.
